Training
The British Wheel of Yoga provides various types of training
courses:
BWY Foundation Course
To widen experience and encourage study for serious students who do not
necessarily wish to prepare for teacher training. It also provides a basic
grounding for those who do want to go on to train as yoga teachers.
BWY Diploma Course
For those who wish to train to be a yoga teacher.
DCT
Training and FCT Training
For BWY Diploma holders who wish to train to be a Diploma Course Tutor or
Foundation Course Tutor.
In-Service
Training
All Diploma holders must attend at least one CPD day (continued professional
development) per year. This can be an IST day or other day approved by a
DCT. IST days
are open to teachers and student teachers.
Post-Diploma
Modules
These courses are for BWY Diploma holders, and focus on specific topics such as yoga for

BWY Foundation Course |
|
The
BWY Foundation Course provides practical yoga techniques and personal
development taught in the context of the philosophy that underpins yoga. It aims
to widen experience and encourage study for serious students who do not
necessarily wish to teach yoga, but also provides a basic grounding for those
who want to progress on to train as yoga teachers.
The course is 60 hours long and may be run in different
formats by different tutors. Usually the duration of the course is about 9
months to a year.
BWY Foundation Level Two Courses are intended for
those who have attended a Foundation Level One course and who do not want to go
on to a Diploma Course to teach. These courses are purely for further
personal development.

qualification, recognised by the Government body Sport England. For more
details see the main BWY

study day per month, though this may vary. As with the Foundation course
it may be run in different formats by different tutors. Please contact
individual tutors for information about their courses.
These courses are usually over-subscribed and new courses
fill up quickly when advertised. Keep an eye on the regional newsletter

In-Service
Training (IST) |
|
The rules regarding IST attendance have been tightened
up. Teachers who do not complete one IST day per year will, the following
year, not appear as a 'T' (teacher) on the list but as 'M' (member) and will not
be covered by the teachers' insurance. This begins NOW. There will
be room for some mitigating circumstances as before, but not many, so
beware!
See the events
page for further details of IST days around the
region.
Contact the
Training
Officer if you have any queries about IST day attendance.
